THE PURGE: ANARCHY Theatrical Trailer

The first Purge film was so-so.  It had an interesting premise, but I wanted to see more of what this anarchist world was like.  Well, THE PURGE: ANARCHY seems like it will deliver more of that world from several points of view.
As you'll see in the trailer, this is not an annual event you want to be a part of.  Even you that think this would be your kind of night would have a hard time dealing with what might be around the corner.  From the looks, I think this sequel will be better than the first one.  Look for it this summer in July.

Second Trailer for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

This second trailer leave me with a better feeling than the first.  Not that I hated the first one, but there was something about it that didn't give me that "Oh, Cool" feeling.  I'm still only 80% convinced that Bryan Singer is bringing the magic.  His first two X-Men films were great, but Singer can make some boo boos too (Superman Returns, ahem).

To tell the truth, I'm more concerned about Fox having stuck their non-geek hands into the production.  By far, this trailer is something to enjoy more than be doubtful about.  I see that they definitely took some things directly from the comic - Uncanny X-Men 141-142.  I'm talking about the 1 second clip with Storm at the beginning.  Check the pic below.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST comes out May 22nd of this year.  I'll be there.  And I'll be pissed if they don't include an After-Credit scene that gives a clue about Apocalypse.

Trailer Jive: THE SIGNAL (2014)

So what I got from the trailer is that there is a signal. No, THE SIGNAL.  And a kid can hear it. He's one of the few people that can. And Fishburne doesn't exactly know what it means. But he knows enough to be in an environmental suit while interviewing the kid.  Also, there maybe some dragonball type psionics involved.

Actually, I like this kind of ambiguous type of science fiction sometimes.  But they aren't for everyone.  Look for it in theaters this June 2014.

French Animated Scifi feature - THE CONGRESS

There's a serious science fiction message in this trailer / film that could be science fact in a few decades.  Will we have to copyright our own brain patterns in the future to stop companies from 'owning' a digital copy of us?  Think about it.  But the trailer also looks like it's going to be an interesting film.

THE CONGRESS gets a limited release this June, but it originally opened in Europe last year.  It's based on a book by Stanislaw Lem - The Futurological Congress. He also wrote Solaris. What do you think? Does this Live Action / Animated film look interesting to you?

BIG HERO 6 - Disney's Animated Marvel based Feature

Everybody (that's a nerd) is talking about the upcoming Marvel / Disney films - CAPTAIN AMERICA 2: THE WINTER SOLDER and the even more interesting GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.  But there's a third Marvel based property coming out this year that nobody is really talking about.  It also took me by surprise when I found the ambiguous teaser trailer.  This third film in the 2014 Marvel big screen collective is called BIG HERO 6.  The difference between the previously mentioned films and this stealthy contender is that it's a CG animation.

Big Hero 6 was a Marvel comic starring Sun-Fire, Silver Samurai and several other unique heroes.  I don't know if those two characters are going to be included in this story, but one character from the comic will be the lead with his giant robot.  From Disney's site:

Big Hero 6 - an action comedy adventure about brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. With the help of his closest companion—a robot named Baymax—Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.

I really hope they include SunFire in the animation.  It would be nice to see another one of the few notable Asian male characters in Marvel make it to the big screen.  THE WOLVERINE actually did a great job of doing that.  BIG HERO 6 hits theaters wide November 7, 2014.

METAL HURLANT CHRONICLES Coming to Syfy Channel

I was always a fan of the magazine HEAVY METAL, although it did fall off in the nineties for me.  Still it had great adult science fiction stories and the animated motion picture was crazy.  The magazine started in France as Metal Hurlant before it came to the states.  Now Syfy is bringing the modern French TV series to the states. METAL HURLANT CHRONICLES will be premiering April 14th at 8pm est.  But there is already a first season out there somewhere.  And I'm always glad to see Michael Jai White starring in a film or TV show. Check the trailer...

And there is a season two being developed in France.  Hope the first season is a hit over here in the USA.  When I ask people if they have ever read the magazine they usually look at me crazy. And these are Science Fiction and Comic fans. What can you do. lol

GSB After Dark - WOMEN: PRESSURED TO REPRODUCE

IN THIS EPISODE:

From a twitter discussion between my tweeps @thick_designer and @adjpants, I featured a topic that I wanted to hear more about in detail - Women and the Pressures by Society to Reproduce.  The Five Nerdy Venoms and I were joined by Hatori Hudson and our new friend JD.  We had an interesting talk with many thoughts and viewpoints.  Of course as always the show devolved to a drinking game by the end. I love my Nerdy Venoms. Here were some of the highpoints:

• How much is put on a woman’s worth for being fertile versus her worth of being a person?
• Is there a part of society that doesn’t want women to have kids? Inda Lauryn brought up a great point in the chat.
• Is it seen as selfish for women to Not have kids?  Is it selfish to have children?
